( it might be part of yoga practice, but i don't see how it applies to art ) perhaps you mean *controlling bodily urges*, but then again, that doesn't stand true, at least not when it comes to art ( a lot of it is hedonistic and outright *carnal* ) or it might be that knowledge transmitted and preserved through language ( be it art or ordinary communication ) is what differentiate us from *other classes of mammals*. but it's almost certain that dolphins ( possibly other mammals or even birds ) are also using a fairly complex language. then, of course, the old dilemma: *creation and appreciation of beauty*. what is beauty? | |

| To your question how can art make us overcome our bodily urges or impulses, the triumph of the spirit over the body, the answer is Goya, Beethoven, Dostoievski to name just a few artists complete artists if not geniuses. But the realm of art is just one. It can be science, philosophy, as long as yoga, yes, is first of all a philosophy. | |
