That peaceful indifference in your eyes
Is so bloody obvious I can see you are giving your best shot At carrying a polite & friendly conversation with me. I know I should just close my eyes & run away But I patiently and courteously wait for you to finish the torture. You talk about ‘weather’ ‘UK’ ‘Cigarettes’ ‘Oh, no, thank you, I think I’ll skip that today…’ ‘Pubs’ ‘I don’t like that place, well, not much, actually I’ve only been there once’ ‘Stupid exams’ ‘Ya, I know, it happened to me too, cramming the day before…’ ‘…’ I know that if I look straight into your eyes I’ll get distracted and it’s that look I would give you a look that you wouldn’t understand anyway you are too busy to understand things these days I look at your mouth instead and think how nice it would be if you could read my mind would you be able to hear it if I said it aloud? ‘??’ ‘Sorryyy… It seems I have too many things on my mind’ ‘…’ ‘Yes, of course’ ‘…’ ‘…’ ‘…’ ‘…’ ‘…’ And there we go mouthing platitudes. But I know you are having a real conversation here & I patiently wait for you to finish the Torture So that we could return to being strangers again For another couple of weeks…
