These are days of my best behavior, no single action is to blame,
I went for a walk and called you by surprise but you were busy Wanted to see if youāre hungry enough to eat, didnāt think it was too lame I had the keys of a rented room down the block, nothing too classy Hoped to lure in for a cup of coffee but I was ready for game Well, so much for my best behavior, I guess it went down the drain Your face was worn by many and Iāve forgotten not to take it in vain I see it again on this approaching lady that is about to pass me on my right She has the hurt embossed around the corners of her eyes, the mirror of your soul, I lowered my head but something she must have recognized In the convenient confusion of hiding the lion from the lamb I called you again but you were indisposed and I was still tame Oh, so funny how different lies sound just the same, We went to that room around the corner, me trailing from behind I told her ābe gentle with meā she thought I have a weak heart Maybe some of it was true or maybe it was my golden age Why did she have to twist that blade, we all get there but not beyond I reckon thatās all Iāll do from now on aside from calling unannounced Why bet on your indisposition instead of dealing with my heart condition Itās not deceptive nor is it real, something to keep me in the clear For when Iāll be accused of stealing the solitary stabbing of a tear.
