a poor child looking
at the gooseberries on the market stall

August moon—
one, two, three . . . yellow leaves fall
from the cherry tree
#
In the cherry tree—
some dirty faces
and full bellies
#
Clear evening—
two children wrangle about
a handful of strawberries
#
Wild cherry—
two copper-colored leaves
fall together
#
Under the ripe cherry tree—
my grandma listens
the bird's song
#
Flocks of starlings
picking up cherries—
I applaud at dawn
#
At evening—
above the empty cherry tree
the new moon
