One morning on the 13th May 09
I was flying on a steel bird And I watched you through With my yearning child eyes And on top of the sky I heard a child sing On the shores of Famagusta My long lost lonely friend My bosom cried When I saw the Sun Precious as you are When passed on top of the Ghost city The mountains deeply sighed I were taught to love My friends and neighbours It was noon My childhood friends they were all gone The school bell don’t ring anymore Then I remembered how We used to walk hand-in-hand To school from outskirts of Famagusta In to the old city Then I stared to the walls with my child eyes Once upon a time we were all there Running, jumping and singing In the avenues of our home I searched for the footprints of mine and Yours Our laughter still echoes And Treasured in the cracks of the old city walls Gunsel Djemal 18/6/2009 – Bromley Road- London
