In the dawns of the day, the man charged with announcing the events in Paris, was letting the people know of the tragedy happened a night before.
-Angeline Birshop, dead!! Big valium for the Vallions, Angeline Birshop dead!!
Velvet, who not often paid attention to the messenger’s words, this time listened carefully. She didn’t understand exactly who was Angeline Birshop or from what reason did she die, cause the poor man was talking so loudly, his voice started to fail, but she did understand where the funeral was. It would have been better if in that only morning she would have preferred to stay in the circus and practice, than having a walk through the Square.
-Anita, do I have any black clothes??, asked, as soon as she saw the woman who helps her to get dressed.
-Why, are you going to a funeral??, answered the woman ironically.
-Yes, I am! Sounded the voice who gave Anita such a thrill she even started thinking Velvet was no human being, but a witch who came to the Circus to drink innocent peoples souls!! HH, poor her, though I must congratulate her for the unlimited imagination she has!!...
Under the heavy, old trees that enclosed the alley, the crowd was walking silently. Even the birds stopped their songs to morn the dead one. It was a perfect painting for any painter in the world. The world looked like it had lost its shine, nothing seemed possible anymore. It was even hard to breath.
They have stopped. The body was put near the pit. John’s eyes were red, tired of crying, tired of living. The talkative women realized there wont be long until 27 years old John, will join his wife and his son into the grave.
While they where thinking at horrible things, John was slowly walking his eyes over the alley. He too in an unconsciously way agreed with the colorless ladies. But his thoughts were taken away. He saw something beneath the trees. It was…, it was a woman!!
Hidden behind a tree, Velvet was watching the funerals with a bored and interested air at the same time. She looked like she had never seen a funeral in her life!! For a moment, John’s face sketched a smile, amused by the viewer’s expression. She noticed and gave him a look he never received in his life. Two big, green eyes that made him tremble with one look. It was clear that the woman, whoever she was, did not have the intention of being laughed of.
-A spirit, of course!!
At the sound of his voice everybody stopped and turned looking at him. It was clearly he lost his mind. Talking of spirits, yes… he must of lost his mind…
-Sun, are you alright?? Asked Madame Luarene worried. Oh, no. I’m loosing my son too!!! Why punish me in this way God, why did I do to deserve it????, started the desperate woman to scream.
-You’re not loosing him mother, I’m not insane. Didn’t you see her, didn’t you see the woman???
Silence was left in the room. No one, but no one had seen Velvet. Thing that left to the first conclusion I mentioned. John was going insane. They said it so often that the idea started making sense even in poor John’s head. Maybe that woman wasn’t real after all. If it would have been different why would’ve she hidden, wouldn’t it be normal to go closer and say laments to the family?? But no matter how much he tried to prove himself she was not real, those eyes, staring at him, couldn’t be by any chance forgotten. Not anymore…!
Back at the Circus, Velvet was not left indifferent either. She saw something in him she never thought she’ll see at a man: tears!! In all her ideas and opinions, that weren’t favorable to the men kind, perhaps she can make an exception after all. “A man that loves his wife…â€
-Well, loved., continued the thought loudly.
-Huh?, asked Marcus; who was sitting next to her. What were you saying???
She didn’t answer; just gave him a playful look. The look she always gives to people when she doesn’t want to answer their questions or when simply, she doesn’t has the answer to them.
